Working draft

This is a working draft published for transparency. It has not yet been reviewed by legal counsel and will be finalized before public launch.

Civicognita is the non-profit steward of the Impactivism movement. This policy explains what limited personal information civicognita.com collects, why, and the choices you have. We designed the site to collect as little as possible.

01Overview

civicognita.com is a mostly-static, informational site about Impactivism and the Civic Commons. The only personal information we collect is an email address, and only when you choose to subscribe to our newsletter. We do not run advertising, we do not sell or rent your data, and we do not build behavioral profiles about you.

02What we collect

  • Your email address — only when you enter it in the newsletter subscribe form.
  • That is the only personal information we ask for or store.

Like any website, our hosting and email providers process ordinary technical data (such as IP addresses and timestamps) in the course of delivering pages and messages. We do not use that data to identify or track you across the web.

03How we use it

We use your email address for one purpose: to send you the occasional update about Civicognita, Impactivism, and the Civic Commons — including a welcome message when you first subscribe. We do not use it for advertising, and we never share it for anyone else’s marketing.

04Email & Resend

Our subscriptions and emails are handled by Resend, a third-party email provider that acts as our data processor. Your email address is stored with Resend so we can manage the list and deliver messages. Resend processes it strictly on our behalf, under its own privacy and security terms; we do not permit it to use your address for its own purposes.

05Cookies

We keep cookies to a minimum. The site sets a single essential, first-party session cookie (the standard Laravel session cookie) so that pages and forms work correctly. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and there is no analytics profiling tied to your identity.

06Third-party links

Our site links out to community and code platforms, including Discord and GitHub. Once you follow a link to one of those services, their own privacy policies and terms apply — not this one. We encourage you to review them.

07Your choices & rights

You are always in control of your email address. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send, or by emailing hello@civicognita.com. You may also ask what we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by writing to the same address. Because the only data we hold is your email, these requests are simple for us to honor.

08Data retention

We keep your email address only for as long as you stay subscribed. When you unsubscribe, your address is removed from our active mailing list. We do not retain it for other purposes.

09Children's privacy

civicognita.com is intended for a general, adult audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has subscribed, contact hello@civicognita.com and we will remove the address.

10Changes to this policy

As the site grows, this policy may change. When it does, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Because this is a pre-launch draft, expect it to be reviewed and refined before public launch.
